St. Charles Borromeo Church’s Safe Guard the Children Committee (SGTC) is committed in implementing the Bishop’s “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.” If you work or volunteer at St. Charles Borromeo School it is required that you are Virtus Trained and fingerprinted.
Parents are reminded that starting the school year all parents are requested to have taken the Virtus training. Parents who have not gone through Virtus training will not be allowed on the school campus during school hours and will not be able to help out or complete service hours here on the school property (mystery reader, parent meetings, help with school fundraisers, hot lunch assistant etc. etc.).
The Safeguard the Children Office at the Los Angeles Archdiocese has stated that all school parents should complete this course along with the many parishioners who work in various parish ministries and programs at the parish level. Virtus training is part of the Safeguard the Children Program. Parents who have already taken the 3-hour course have all stated they found it to be positive program.
Parents who complete the course are to bring a copy of their certificate to the school where a photocopy of the certificate will be kept on file. Once you complete the 3-hour course, you will be asked to take a 1-hour refresher course every 3 years – with certificates being kept on file. All teachers and staff here at school have completed the program and continue to keep their Virtus training status current.
